This architecturally designed family home was built in the backyard of the family’s existing cottage. A site-specific dwelling, it has a beautiful outlook from every room. The exterior features cladding in radially cut silvertop ash and elegant timber shades. In the interior, a rammed earth wall is a striking design feature and also provides thermal mass. A staircase curls up to a second living area, opening centrally in the space to create a unique room.
The walls are constructed of SIPs and provide cutting edge technology through modern materials. Windows are double-glazed and solar oriented to create passive heating and cooling. Polished concrete floors with hydronic under floor heating and a wood stove keep the family extra cozy.
